Benefit Enrollment and Changes
All benefits enrollments and changes are handled through the Office of Human Resources. To schedule an appointment, please email benefits@kysu.edu.
You have 30 days from the date of a qualifying event to complete changes to your benefits that are consistent with that event. If you do not make the changes during the 30-day window, adjustments cannot be made until the next Annual Enrollment in October, with an effective date of January of the following year.
Examples of Qualifying Events and Changes:
- Birth or adoption of a child
- Marriage
- Divorce, legal separation, dissolution of a domestic partnership, or annulment
- Death of a spouse or dependent
- Dependent child turns 26
- Spouse’s employment status changes (e.g., part-time to full-time or vice versa)
- Termination or commencement of employment for the employee, spouse, or dependent
- Gain or loss of other health coverage (including Health Care Exchange coverage)
- Medical child-support order
- Medicare eligibility
- Medicaid eligibility
Effective Dates of Coverage Changes:
- Coverage begins the first of the month following receipt of the enrollment change request.
- Exception: For birth, adoption, or placement for adoption, coverage is effective retroactively to the date of birth, adoption, or placement.
If you are adding a dependent to your coverage, you must provide:
- Dependent eligibility documents
- Dependent Social Security numbers
- Birth dates
