Benefit Enrollment and Changes

All benefits enrollments and changes are handled through the Office of Human Resources. To schedule an appointment, please email benefits@kysu.edu.

You have 30 days from the date of a qualifying event to complete changes to your benefits that are consistent with that event. If you do not make the changes during the 30-day window, adjustments cannot be made until the next Annual Enrollment in October, with an effective date of January of the following year.

Examples of Qualifying Events and Changes:

  • Birth or adoption of a child
  • Marriage
  • Divorce, legal separation, dissolution of a domestic partnership, or annulment
  • Death of a spouse or dependent
  • Dependent child turns 26
  • Spouse’s employment status changes (e.g., part-time to full-time or vice versa)
  • Termination or commencement of employment for the employee, spouse, or dependent
  • Gain or loss of other health coverage (including Health Care Exchange coverage)
  • Medical child-support order
  • Medicare eligibility

Effective Dates of Coverage Changes:

  • Coverage begins the first of the month following receipt of the enrollment change request.

If you are adding a dependent to your coverage, you must provide:

  • Dependent eligibility documents
