ESL Program
- Teach general and academic English to multilingual and multicultural students;
- Help students gain an understanding of English language and American culture, while also honoring their own cultures, values, and traditions;
- Experience college life at Kentucky State University (KSU);
- Provide opportunities for students to achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals;
- Guide students toward actively contributing to their own learning process as well as to the intellectual and social life of KSU, both in and out of the classroom;
- Help with TOEFL and GRE test if need;
- Serve as the program that satisfies the English language proficiency requirements of other departments at KSU, which is a pathway to the University’s undergraduate and graduate programs.
- All different levels: initial/beginners, intermediate, and advanced
- May be free to local community members
- Meet once or twice a week during regular semester and summer session for local students. Classes may be 3-5 hours
- International ESL (F-1 students) students must take at least 18 hours per week.
No TOEFL or IELTS test score is required for admission to the International Bridge Pathway Program or to single ESL Program only. All new students will take a placement test to determine their English language level.
A TOEFL or IELTS score is not required to enter the degree program if the student completes the advanced level of the ESL Pathway Program. However, students must take GRE test if the specific Master degree program requires GRE for admission.

After you submit your application, you will receive an email requesting the following additional documents (please have available prior to applying):
- A copy of the biographical information page of your passport, (as well as family members' biographical information page of passport if applicable).
- Proof of funding. For 2023-2024 your bank statement must show at least $20,820 for one year of study. You or your sponsor should send a bank letter that is not more than 6 months old and is written in English, which verifies these funds.
- Self/Family Sponsored: a bank statement
- Government Sponsored: sponsorship letter
- Company Sponsored: letter from the company, and a bank statement
