Learning Outcomes

Learning outcomes are linked to the general education core, the Business professional core, and the specific area of specialization. The outcomes provide a link to the assessment measures. 1.  Fundamental Knowledge – Demonstrate a basic understanding of core business disciplines and integrate the areas of accounting, finance, management, economics, legal and regulatory environment.

  • Explain and interpret the principal features of core business disciplines (accounting, finance, management, marketing, economics, legal and regulatory environment) citing relevant theories and practices.
  • Define and properly use relevant business terminology.
  • Construct and present a summative project(s) capturing the complexity of a business situation.
  • Apply and use business tools, technologies, and methods.

2.  Oral and Written Communication – Communicate effectively and professionally using Standard English in business settings using supporting documentation.

  • Produce clear, concise, and effective business documents including e-mails, letters, memos, and reports.
  • Listen and speak competently in a variety of business communication contexts including presentations and small group settings.
  • Understand the need for and demonstrate ability to cite external sources (while avoiding plagiarism), using an appropriate style guide (e.g. APA).

3.  Critical Thinking, Decision Making and Problem Solving – use critical thinking skills to analyze and identify tactical solutions to structured business problems.

  • Identify, categorize, differentiate, and evaluate theories and approaches to complex business problems.
  • Analyze a business situation, identify the problem/opportunity and formulate and present a tactical solution.
  • Incorporate information from a variety of sources in projects/papers and generate and evaluate the relative merits of acceptable solutions to a business problem.
  • Be able to work in a team to solve structured business problems.

4.  Information technology – apply information technology tools appropriately to the analysis of business problems.

  • Explain and use standard business application tools.
  • Evaluate and select business application tools to solve complex business problems.
  • Understand how different business technology tools and platforms are deployed.

5.  Ethics – identify ethical issues in business and society with an understanding of the consequences of personal, group, and organizational actions.

  • Identify ethical issues in business and society.
  • Understand and demonstrate how individual actions affect others.
  • Develop and justify a position on ethical issues incorporating careful consideration of consequences and relate this position to alternative views.

6.  Global and Multicultural – identify and analyze global dimensions (e.g. cultural, political, economic, technological, legal) of the business environment.

  • Explain the impact of political and economic factors on the functioning of business.
  • Describe another culture in a business environment.
  • Describe the implications of diversity in business.
  • Describe one’s own civic and cultural background and relate it to another culture.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the advantages of diversity in the workplace.
  • Differentiate and evaluate political, economic, technological, and legal implications for complex business decisions within business.
  • Differentiate and evaluate the impact of diversity on business.
