Agricultural Research Station
The Agricultural Research Station (ARS) encompasses all areas of research in the College of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources and 1890’s Land Grant Program. Our mission is to develop, advance, and disseminate scientific knowledge, improve agricultural productivity, preserve plants and animals, protect the environment, and enhance the health and economic opportunities of the people of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, especially for socially disadvantaged and limited resource farmers and under-served communities, as well other stakeholders around the world. The ARS also supports the mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students in research opportunities through internship and assistant-ship programs.

Welcome to the ACE Agricultural Research Station (ARS) at KSU. The ACE has nationally and internationally recognized research programs in aquaculture (fish farming), organic agriculture, sustainable biofuel feedstock production, alternative fruit and nut crops, ecological entomology, alternative pesticides and water quality, global information systems, agroforestry, goat production, biotechnology, obesity and human health, and apiculture. The Aquaculture Program, KSU’s “Program of Distinction,” is widely recognized as being a national and international leader in the areas of paddlefish culture, freshwater prawn culture, Koi breeding, production of large mouth bass on-feed, and fish meal replacement research for catfish and hybrid striped bass. Additionally, KSU boasts the largest multi-disciplinary team organic agriculture program in the 1890s Land Grant system; recently released its first pawpaw fruit variety, KSU-Atwood™; and created the “Shape Up-KSU” program for assessing risk factors for metabolic syndrome in African-American young adults. These research programs provide mentoring opportunities for students in the Baccalaureate Degree in Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources Baccalaureate of Arts in Childhood Development and Family Relations, Masters of Science in Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences, Masters of Science in Environmental Studies, and Online Master of Science in Environmental Studies degree programs, as well as faculty experienced in cutting edge research techniques in areas important to agricultural, aquaculture, food, and environmental sciences. |
