The Bachelor of Science in Biology Education resulting in initial certification (grades 8-12) is offered through traditional campus-based coursework. The program prepares candidates to be effective high school biology teachers in a variety of settings. Graduates of this program receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology through the Teacher Certification Option. Candidates receive extensive preparation in liberal arts and integrative studies, the content field of biology and supporting disciplines, and professional education coursework. There is an extreme shortage of science educations in P-12 schools. The program prepares candidates who are able to think critically, integrate science throughout the curriculum, demonstrate best practices and improve student learning outcomes.
