Kentucky State University (KSU) is pleased to announce the official Inauguration of Dr. Koffi C. Akakpo as its 19th President, scheduled for Friday, September 20, 2024. Dr. Akakpo assumed the presidency on July 1, 2023 and over the past year, Dr. Akakpo has led efforts to balance the budget, increase enrollment, and instill robust internal controls to ensure the University's financial stability and long-term success. The upcoming ceremony will serve as a celebration of the students, programs, and future of Kentucky State University.
In the past year, Kentucky State University celebrated one of its largest graduations in recent history. Additionally, the University received the largest standalone grant in its history, a $7,000,000 National Science Foundation award. KSU has also expanded its partnerships with high schools to offer dual credit access to more students across the Commonwealth and beyond, signing articulation agreements with community colleges and technical schools, including KCTCS.
The Inauguration, presented by Diageo North America, will be a milestone event for the University, with participation from local and state officials, underscoring the significance of this moment in the institution’s history.
The day’s events will commence at 11:00 AM with a luncheon presented by CHI St. Joseph Health in the Carl M. Hill Student Center Ballroom (Student Center), followed by the official Oath of Office at 2:00 PM in the historic Bradford Hall. The 2:00 PM Oath of Office ceremony is open to the public, and all are invited to attend. The University will showcase academic programs and research in the Student Center Courtyard from noon to 2:00 PM.
Dr. Akakpo’s Inauguration marks a renewed chapter for Kentucky State University, where students are at the heart of its mission. His focus on student success and educational excellence is reflected in his efforts for KSU to be a student-ready University.
