Kentucky State University is pleased to announce that three KSU students have been awarded scholarships from the Kentucky Business and Professional Women’s Foundation. KSU nursing students Jasmine Ammons, Victoria Nicholson, and Brittany Lindsey were issued a total of $4,130 in scholarships to assist with their studies.

The Kentucky Business and Professional Women’s Foundation scholarship uniquely focuses on assisting students with non-traditional expenses that may inhibit students’ from completing their program such as cost of books, equipment, transportation, childcare, and more.

“As an untraditional student going back to school at an older age (28), I have had to maintain my full-time job while attending nursing school full time. This scholarship has had a positive impact on my life by relieving some of the financial hardships that have come along with this decision of going back to school,” said scholarship recipient Victoria Nicholson. “This scholarship will help me further pursue my degree by allowing me to obtain new school supplies, and other things needed for this semester, as well as any additional costs such as gas. With my first clinical rotation being in Louisville, KY, it’s a bit of a drive. Thank you so much for gifting me the scholarship!”

The Kentucky Business and Professional Women’s Foundation has issued over $16,000 in scholarships to KSU nursing students since 2022.

Program Administrator for the School of Nursing Dr. Mary Ellen Broaddus stated, “Thank you for your work in letting the students in the School of Nursing know about this opportunity. You have supported us for several years by informing us of the good work of the Kentucky Federation of Business and Professional Women.”

The Foundation was established in May 1984 by the Kentucky Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc. (KFBPW) to support citizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky who are pursuing higher education.

KFBPW North Central Region Director and member of the Woodford County BPW Sonia Sanders stated, “KFBPW promotes women in the workplace through education and information. It is a powerful network of working women seeking to advance their career goals and establish rewarding careers such as those offered at KSU.”

The next deadline for the Kentucky Business and Professional Women’s Foundation scholarship is October 15. The application can be found at https://bpw-ky.org/foundation/
