Pawpaw Distribution

Most species of the genus Asimina are limited to the extreme southeastern portion of the United States (Figures 1-3). However, A. parviflora is found as far north as Virginia and A. triloba occurs as far north as southern Michigan and as far west as eastern Nebraska and Oklahoma. Figures 1 through 3 show the distribution of each Asimina species. These should aid those interested in collecting superior fruit, which are necessary for genetic improvement and subsequent commercialization of the crop.
