The Kentucky State University fundraising team is asking faculty, staff, students, leadership, and parents to unite behind a vital community initiative by signing a letter of support to Governor Andy Beshear on the Swim With Purpose community webpage, which is devoted to bringing swimming back to Kentucky State University, the Frankfort community, and the YMCA.

Your support will help encourage renovation of the William Exum Center indoor pool, restoring and modernizing a critical aquatic facility on the University’s campus. Once reopened, the facility will expand access to safe, affordable aquatic programming for Kentucky State students and the greater Frankfort community, supporting swim education, water-safety training, senior wellness programming, recreational use, and intercollegiate and intramural athletics.

Frankfort and the surrounding region face a shortage of accessible aquatic facilities. This gap limits opportunities for swim instruction and fitness and increases water-safety risk in an area surrounded by rivers, lakes, and residential pools. The project addresses health, safety, and wellness needs for youth, students, seniors, military personnel, and rehabilitation patients.

$400,000 matching commitment must be fulfilled by March 30, 2026. To demonstrate broad and meaningful community support, our goal is to collect 1,000 or more signatures by February 1, 2026. These letters of support will send a clear message to partners and stakeholders as we work together to advance this important effort.

Your voice matters. By signing the letter, you help move us one step closer to reopening the doors and restoring a resource that serves education, health, and well-being across Kentucky State and beyond.
