Lisa Lang named General Counsel at Kentucky State University
FRANKFORT — Kentucky State University President M. Christopher Brown II recently named Lisa K. Lang, Esq., an attorney with vast experience in higher education, to the position of General Counsel.
Lang has spent the last nine years providing counsel to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. She served as assistant general counsel for the Department of Education from 2008 until present and as general counsel to the Education Professional Standards Board from 2016 until present. She also served in the Office of the Attorney General as the assistant attorney general, acting executive director of the Office of Civil and Environmental Law Division and civil litigation branch manager from 2008 until 2010.
General counsel to the University touches nearly every area of law, according to Kentucky State officials, including litigation, labor and employment, public contracting, intellectual property, research and technology transfer, business transactions, benefits, administrative law, health care law, public safety and criminal law matters, federal and state constitutional and public law issues.
“Lang will be the key legal, policy and strategic advisor to the colleges, schools, and academic departments across the University and for other units and projects,” President Brown said. “Lang brings a wealth of knowledge and exceptional achievements in the realm of higher education law. Lang served in the United States Army from 1992 until 1998, serving as a legal clerk in the claims division, Legal NCO for the 18th Military Police Brigade and Brigade Legal NCO for the 1st Armor Training Brigade. She began her legal career outside of the Army at Mapother and Mapother in Louisville, serving as a litigation paralegal specializing in debtor and creditor law.
Lang spent nine years at the private practice of Woodward, Hobson & Fulton from 1999 until 2008. She began as a senior litigation paralegal and served as an associate after earning her J.D. She has bar admissions in the Kentucky Supreme Court, both Kentucky districts of the United States District Court, the United States Supreme Court, the Indiana Supreme Court and the Northern and Southern districts of Indiana in the United States District Court.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Eastern Illinois University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law.
