FRANKFORT — This summer, more than 45 Kentucky students will receive a financial tune-up, courtesy of Commonwealth Credit Union in partnership with Kentucky State University (KSU), as they shift into drive with GEAR UP Kentucky, a three-week residency program from June 11 to June 30 on the University’s campus.

Commonwealth CU is joining the Kiwanis’ effort of “What Can You Do for KSU” by conducting personal finance classes for GEAR UP Kentucky students. The students will have a daily schedule of classes, taught by college professors. They will also experience life as a college student, staying in a residence hall, eating in campus dining halls, and interacting with college staff and students.

The course offered by Commonwealth CU, Financial Literacy for College Students, will cover topics such as learning the differences between banks and credit unions, creating a budget on a fixed income and identifying fraud scams aimed at college students.

GEAR UP helps students develop the skills needed for college and career success and create the opportunity to visualize themselves as a future college student.
