Mighty Marching Thorobreds hit high note with awards banquet

The Mighty Marching Thorobreds (MMT) ended the 2015-2016 season with an elegant awards banquet Wednesday, May 11 in the Student Center Ballroom.

Director of Bands Alvin Level, Interim Chair – Division of Fine Arts; Dr. Roosevelt O. Shelton; Associate Director of Bands Robert Griffin; and Silkettes and K-Rettes Auxiliary Coordinator Churi Level paid tribute to more than 50 band members — including eight graduating seniors — during the special event.

All of the students were awarded a certificate of participation, and several standout members received trophies:

Best Freshman: Joshua Patton  052

Best Sophomore: Nuri Ali

Best Junior: Brandon Hargrave

Best Senior: Ethan Coats

Most Improved Student Award: Sarah Reid

Most Improved Section Award: Mellophone (Dante Brown, Karissa Church, Carl Dorsey, Jordan Robinson)

Best Section Award: Trombone (Nate Davis, Javien Davis, Terrence McCarty, Ethan Coats, Aijalon Lott)

Director’s Award: Jordan Robinson

Make It Happen Award: K-Rettes & Silkettes

Best Bandsman: Aaron Coleman

MMT Image Award: Stefon Kitching

MMT’s graduating seniors include: Kamal Hill (tuba), Stefon Kitching (clarinet), Tiffany Camp (mellophone), Ethan Coats (trombone), Kessiah Cunningham (percussion), Ashlie Smoot-Baker (saxophone), Jordan Robinson (mellophone) and Alex Hobbs (drum major/percussion).

Alvin Level also presented both Griffin and Dr. Shelton with certificates of appreciation.
