KSU student D’Andre Garrison is on the move again. Just two months ago, the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment student presented his work in Posters-At-The-Capitol in Frankfort where he met Sen. Julian Carroll.

After this meeting, Garrison, along with 10 students from Kentucky State as well as students from other historically black colleges and universities, attended the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) in Atlanta. The conference also provided an opportunity to network with leaders in the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) at the two-day event. During the event, the students could also apply for jobs in their fields of study.

“My experience at the NAFEO Conference in Atlanta was great,” Garrison said. “I learned so many things that will help me be successful in the future. Having the chance to go out and represent my school in such a positive way in front of so many people and be involved and interact with students from 20 other colleges and universities was amazing.”

Garrison also is adding another government leader to his growing list contacts after meeting Leonard Jordan, associate chief for conservation at the NRCS.

“Just having the opportunity to be engaged with so many people that have the same interest as me as well as some of the heads of the NRCS was invaluable,” he said. “It was very beneficial.”
