Staff Professional Development
For the purpose of professional development which will benefit both the individual and the University.
Eligible individuals may be awarded professional development opportunities during the grant year.
Awards are contingent upon grant funds availability. For the current grant cycle, PD funds are available October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024. Applications will be received between October 1, 2023 and September 30, 2024.
Applications must be submitted a minimum of thirty (30) business days (40 calendar days) prior to an event. Applications submitted less than thirty (30) business days (40 calendar days) prior to an event will not be considered.
If an event requires lecturers, speakers or consultants, all applications must be submitted sixty days prior to the event.
All Professional Development requests will be reviewed and approved by the OHR and forwarded to Title III, to approve the use of funds.
Application Process
Applicants must complete the online application section of this webpage for funding to be considered. The application must be completed in its entirety (including the submission of required documents) being submitted for consideration by the OHR.
Required documents/items include:
- Completed Application (via website portal)
- Travel Authorization Form
- Departmental/supervisor approval (via website portal)
- Conference/event agenda
- Quote for registration
- Quote for hotel accommodations (if applicable)
- Quote for transportation (airfare, bus, or car rental, if applicable)
- Flight authorization (if applicable)
After an application is completed it is forwarded, through the portal, to OHR for Review. Once reviewed, the candidate will receive notification from the Office of Human Resources, regarding approval or denial. If approved, the OHR will communicate the next steps in the process.

Awardees’ Responsibilities
Individuals who are awarded must:
- Complete and submit the Title III Post-Travel reporting form to the Title III Office within 15 working days of return to campus or completion of professional development event
- Complete all documentation required for reimbursement.
- Schedule an appropriate opportunity to share the results of your award activity on campus
Important Dates
Applications are accepted throughout the calendar year. The OHR will review applications on a weekly basis. Applicants are encouraged to apply expeditiously because funds are limited and the opportunity is competitive.
Application Deadlines
For the current grant cycle, applications are accepted between October 1, 2023 and September 30, 2024.
Reimbursement
All request for reimbursement for expenses such as per diem, mileage, etc., must be completed prior to August 30, 2023, preferably, within 30 working days of return to campus or completion of professional development event. Reimbursement requests submitted after the August 30, 2023 date will not be considered.
Do not make any purchases without approval. You will be fully responsible if your Professional Development is not completely approved by all required signatures.
Reimbursement requests for retroactive funding will not be considered at any time.
