Reaffirmation 2019

General Information on the Reaffirmation Process

If you have any questions about the Reaffirmation process and timelines, please visit the Office of Academic Affairs.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) is the recognized regional accrediting body in the eleven U.S. Southern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia) and in Latin America for those institutions of higher education that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degrees. To maintain accreditation with the Commission on Colleges, an institution must comply with the standards and requirements in  The Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement  and with the policies and procedures of the Southern Association of Commission on Colleges.

Kentucky State University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate, baccalaureate, masters, and doctorate of nursing practice level degrees. Kentucky State University also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels. Questions about the accreditation of Kentucky State University may be directed in writing to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097, by calling (404) 679-4500, or by using information available on SACSCOC’s website (www.sacscoc.org).

As part of the reaffirmation of accreditation process, Kentucky State submitted 1) a Compliance Certification demonstrating compliance with core requirements, comprehensive standards, and federal regulations, (September 2018), 2) an Institutional Summary Form prepared for Commission review (September 2018), and 3) a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) that addresses a focused topic or issue related to enhancing student learning (February 2019). An Off-Site Reaffirmation Committee, which consists of faculty and staff members from other SACSCOC accredited institutions, reviewed Kentucky State’s Compliance Certification. In reply to this initial Off-Site review, Kentucky State University submitted a Focused Report in February 2019, addressing the questions of the Off-Site Committee.

An On-Site Reaffirmation Committee, which also consists of faculty and staff members from other SACSCOC accredited institutions, will visit the campus during the On-Site Reaffirmation Visit: March 19-21, 2019. The On-Site Committee evaluates and determines the acceptability of the QEP, reviews areas of non-compliance noted by the Off-Site Committee, reviews standards and requirements related to the criteria established by the U.S. Department of Education, and investigates any additional areas of interest. The On-Site Reaffirmation Committee completes the Report of the Reaffirmation Committee, which is submitted to the Commission with a copy to KSU.

Following the On-Site Visit, Kentucky State University prepares a response to the recommendations, if any, in the Report of the Reaffirmation Committee and submits it, along with a copy of the QEP, to SACSCOC.

In December 2019, after reviewing the Report of the Reaffirmation Committee, the QEP, and KSU’s response, the SACSCOC Board of Trustees takes action on KSU’s Reaffirmation. SACSCOC will then notify Kentucky State University of the reaffirmation of accreditation decision.
