Dear Thorobred Supporters,
The amended Senate Bill 185 has passed both chambers of the Kentucky General Assembly
and will be sent to Gov. Andy Beshear for consideration.
This marks a consequential stage in the legislative process for Kentucky State University.
Over the past several days, many members of our campus community have followed these
developments closely, engaged thoughtfully, and spoken with conviction about the values
and mission that define this institution.
I am grateful to our students, alumni, faculty, staff, and supporters who helped ensure
that Kentucky State’s voice was present and heard throughout this process. Your advocacy
reflected both pride in our history and belief in our future. I am also appreciative
of our partners in state government and higher education who have engaged this legislation
with seriousness and care.
As this process moves to the Governor, our focus remains steady. We will continue
to advocate for Kentucky State University in a manner that honors who we are, protects
what matters most, and positions this institution for long-term strength and sustainability.
We will continue to share updates and resources on our Onward and Upward webpage at kysu.edu/onwardupward.
Thank you for your continued support of Kentucky State University.
Onward and Upward,
Koffi C. Akakpo, Ph.D.
President
