As we approach the season of gratitude and giving, we are announcing an incredible opportunity to make an even more meaningful impact on the students of Kentucky State University.
Giving Tuesday is just around the corner, and on December 2nd, we’re coming together as a Thorobred family to support our students, faculty, and the future of KSU.
This year, Kentucky State University is partnering with the Blue Grass Community Foundation for the 2025 Bluegrass Gives and we’re counting on your support to make this year’s Giving Tuesday a success. Whether you give a little or a lot, every gift counts and brings us closer to our scholarship goals.
Your support during Bluegrass Gives helps KSU:

Meet Ronny Smith – A proud senior here at Kentucky State University!
Hailing from Louisville, Kentucky, Ronny is an Elementary Education major and a dancer on the Captivating K-Rette Dance Team of the Mighty Marching Thorobreds. With family and mentors who are KSU alumni, and fond memories of attending Homecoming with her mom, Ronny always felt K-State was calling her name.
Since becoming a Thorobred, she’s embraced the spotlight on the field. “It’s an unbeatable feeling,” she says of performing during halftime. “There’s nothing I can compare to being part of the band—it’s amazing.” Though she was new to the world of HBCU-style marching bands, the moment she experienced it in high school, she knew it was where she belonged. “Now that I’m here, I can’t imagine my life without it.”
But Ronny shines just as brightly in the classroom. A passionate future educator, she’s driven by her belief that “education is one thing no one can take from you.” Whether she’s tutoring students or learning alongside faculty who’ve walked the same path, she’s fueled by a commitment to inspire the next generation.
She’s also a two-year member of the Student Government Association, an active participant in KSU Girls Rock, and a member of the Kentucky Educators Association. For Ronny, what makes KSU truly special is the close-knit community—where professors show up to support students beyond the classroom, where small class sizes foster real connection, and where she continues to grow by learning alongside peers and mentors who want to see her succeed.
