KSU School of Social Work Highlights and Supports Career Opportunities in Child Welfare

Dr. Angela Williams, Interim Chair, Director of Field Education, and Assistant Professor
in the School of Social Work; along with CW PREP Support Coordinator Kaelen Brunson;
and scholars Shelby Bell and Paris Wardlow, attended CW PREP’s PREP UP 2025 Retreat
on March 28-29, 2025, in Lexington, KY. This retreat brought together students and
faculty from across the state, offering invaluable networking opportunities, and insights
into preparing for careers in child welfare.
In addition to attending the retreat, the School of Social Work is excited to continue
supporting students' professional development. Throughout the week, the School of
Social Work will be hosting pop-up recruitment tables at the Carl M. Hill Student
Center. The School of Social Work team will be encouraging students to apply for a
unique opportunity that offers financial support, specialized training, and career
advancement in the field of social work.

Eligibility Requirements:
• Full-time enrollment in an undergraduate social work program (or eligibility for admittance
by the end of the semester)
• A minimum 2.5 overall GPA and a 3.0 in social work courses at the time of application
• No less than three and no more than four regular semesters before graduation (after
the current semester)
• No criminal record, including felony convictions
• Valid driver’s license or other form of identification
What Do I Get?
• Fully paid in-state tuition for up to four semesters
• $1,300 stipend per semester
• Priority consideration for employment with the Kentucky Department of Community-Based
Services (DCBS)
• Specialized training in public child welfare and family well-being
• Access to a supportive network of peers and professionals dedicated to your success
What Do I Have to Do?
• Maintain entry-level or better GPA’s
• Maintain full-time enrollment each semester in the program
• Be willing to start a rewarding position with DCBS within two months of graduation
and remain employed for two years
