Savion Briggs, a Kentucky State University (KSU) graduate student, was recently announced as an AT&T 2024 Rising Future Makers Showcase Winner. This initiative by AT&T annually recognizes and supports cohorts of 25 students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) who are making an impact in their communities and on their campus.

Each winner receives $5,000, a 5G-enabled tablet with one year of AT&T service, and access to professional workshop opportunities, including mentoring sessions with AT&T executives aimed at expanding their networks and furthering their professional development. With this opportunity, Briggs is eager to launch his nonprofit which will be dedicated to helping high school students smoothly transition into HBCUs and other colleges.

"I’m super excited. It truly means a lot to me,” said Briggs. “As a first-generation college student, I endured a lot of obstacles going on this route, and it’s amazing that I’m going to be able to pour back into the community.”

Briggs, who recently graduated from KSU with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, has returned to KSU to earn his Master of Business Administration. Following his studies at KSU, he plans to go on to law school to become an attorney, while continuing to support his community through his nonprofit.

“We are incredibly proud of Savion for his hard work and dedication. It is remarkable to see what our students can accomplish and the ways that they are making positive impacts in the world,” said KSU President, Dr. Koffi C. Akakpo. “We look forward to seeing all that Savion will do.”
