Congratulations to Dr. Chi Shen, Newly Appointed Dean of the College of Business, Engineering, and Technology

Let us give a heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Chi Shen for her new appointment as Dean of the College of Business, Engineering, and Technology. This new role testifies to Dr. Shen’s dedication to the advancement of higher education and passion for the students at Kentucky State University.

Since joining KSU 20 years ago, Dr. Shen has served in several leadership roles, including Acting Dean of the College of Business, Engineering, and Technology; Chair of three different schools; and Professor of Computer Science. She has played a key role in curriculum development, the creation of new degree programs, and the establishment of interdisciplinary certificates. She has also been deeply involved in fostering collaborations with community colleges, international universities, and various academic and professional organizations.

Recently, Dr. Shen worked diligently to help establish the following innovative and new programs: Master of Science in Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering Technology, and the Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity.

Dr. Shen earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Kentucky and has had a rewarding career in teaching, research, and academic administration at Kentucky State University. Before her time at KSU, Dr. Shen was an associate professor and a vice chairperson in the Department of Mathematics at North China Electric Power University.

Dr. Shen's research focuses on parallel computing, scientific computing, data mining, and information retrieval, with numeral publications and collaborations across universities, colleges, and professional organizations. She has also been involved in multiple grants and has fostered students' interdisciplinary research. Since 2009, she has also served as a Campus Champion for XSEDE, providing the KSU community access to one of the world’s largest computing resources.

We are excited to see the incredible impact Dr. Shen will have in her new appointment and thank her the many ways she empowers Thorobreds to lead for impact.
