On Thursday, November 21, 2024, Kentucky State University responded to a bomb threat. The threat was received via phone call shortly after 8:20 a.m. Kentucky State University campus police, staff and local law enforcement acted swiftly to close campus and evacuate students and staff to safe locations and to redirect incoming campus traffic.

Frankfort Police, working with the Kentucky State University Campus Police, Franklin County Sheriff’s office, Kentucky State Police, Frankfort/Franklin County Emergency Management and other law enforcement agencies, worked to investigate and clear all buildings on campus.

No threats were found and the campus is now reopened.

Students may return to their residence halls, and campus dining will be available for dinner service beginning at 4:30 p.m. All other campus operations will remain closed for the remainder of the day, and staff and faculty are advised to remain home.

The University will open for regular operations at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, November 22, 2024.

The threat is being investigated by Kentucky State University Police Department, the Frankfort Police Department with assistance from Kentucky State Police, and is ongoing.

“The Frankfort Police Department worked closely with Kentucky State University to ensure a swift and thorough response to today’s threat. While there was no evidence of immediate danger, we continue to take every precaution to protect students, faculty, and staff. I want to assure everyone that we stand united against any acts meant to instill fear, and that the safety of our community is our highest priority,” says Frankfort Mayor Layne Wilkerson.

Kentucky State University would like to thank the Frankfort Police Department, the Frankfort community, Kentucky State Police, University of Kentucky Police, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County K9 Units, Arch Museum K9 Units, Kentucky State University Police K9 Units, the City of Frankfort, Post 12, Frankfort Transit, Kentucky State faculty and staff, Risk Management, and law enforcement agencies from surrounding communities for their continued partnership and their swift and professional response to today’s event. Special thanks to the City of Frankfort for providing transportation and other resources to assist with ensuring the safety of the KSU community.
