One of the primary attributes that distinguishes the performing arts from other disciplines is that artist “do” art. There has not always existed a formal “Division of Performing Arts” at Kentucky State University over its 130 years of existence. Nevertheless, there has always been an active community of scholars at this institution, “doing art.” All of the legacies highlighted here have attained regional, national or international acclaim; and each made the decision to practice their crafts at ‘doing art” as a KSU Performing Arts major, at Kentucky State University.
