Why Kentucky State?
I like to say Kentucky State chose me. I knew I definitely wanted to attend an HBCU, so, when I started looking, one of my high school teachers who attended Kentucky State encouraged me to look into it. I was invited to an HBCU college fair and on the spot Kentucky State offered me a scholarship. My first visit, I fell in love. The staff and students were so welcoming and nice; it was very family-oriented and small which was exactly what I was looking for.
What is your major and why did you choose this area of study?
I chose social work because I felt like it was perfect for who I am and what I love to do. I love helping people and I go above and beyond to do so. I also love to be an avenue of change in the community. With social work, there’s so many different directions you can go and I look forward to tapping into a lot of different aspects of it.
Who inspires you and why?
My mom inspires me the most because no matter what life throws at her she never lets it get her down or ruin her faith in God. She constantly reminds me that “if He puts you to it, He’ll get you through it” and that’s a continuous reminder to never give up. She’s my everything.
What do you plan to do when you graduate?
I plan to immediately go to graduate school to get my master’s degree and possibly move out-of-state.
Words to live by: “Don’t pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one!”
