Name: Kathy Kamminga
Position: I am a post doc working for Dr. Tom Webster.
How long have you been employed at Kentucky State?
I have worked at Kentucky State from 2012 – 2013, then 2016 to present.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy learning how to determine the presence of disease and pests in the colony, as well as how to decrease them to keep the colony healthy.
What has been one of your favorite moments at Kentucky State?
One of my favorite moments at Kentucky State was co-teaching the environmental entomology class in the fall of 2019 with Dr. Webster. I enjoyed interacting with the students and sharing my passion for entomology with them.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
When I am not working, I enjoy taking fitness classes and trying new recipes.
What is one thing you couldn’t live without?
I could not live without my family. I have two sweet kids ages 4 and 6.
A fun fact about me is…
A fun fact about me is that I was an agro-forestry volunteer for the Peace Corps in The Gambia from 2000-2002. While in The Gambia, I lived in a rural village with a family and had my own small thatched hut.
