Listed below are some of the frequently asked questions about the Academic Center for Excellence for students at Kentucky State University.

What other services are offered by TLC?

In addition to peer tutors, the center provides a welcoming space to study independently as well as receive individual academic coaching. We also provide success workshops throughout the semester.

Can I expect my papers or homework to be error free if I seek TLC help?

Students who receive academic assistance from TLC will not necessarily submit error-free homework or perfectly-composed papers. Rather, TLC peer tutors help students improve their abilities to problem-solve; build skills and process mathematical concepts; and organize, develop, revise, and edit ideas while working toward mastering the writing process.

How long does an TLC session last?

TLC sessions last approximately 30 to 50 minutes.

How do I sign in?

TutorTrac is TLC’s electronic login/logout system. When you enter and when you leave TLC, a staff member will assist you with this process. To sign in, you will need to know your Student I.D. number and the course number for which you are seeking assistance.

Does tutoring have to be one-on-one?

No, small groups are welcome, and many students find it beneficial to study with classmates. Furthermore, if you are looking for help with a class that is already being tutored, you ask to join that session to avoid waiting for an available tutor.

How can I access tutoring at TLC?

While walk-ins are always welcome, it is best to schedule an appointment if you would like to work with a specific tutor. You can schedule an appointment with your preferred tutor using Tutortrac.

When I visit TLC, who will be available to help me?

TLC currently uses peer tutors for academic support.

When can I begin using TLC services?

Peer tutors are available to work with students by appointment or on a drop-in basis beginning the first day of classes.
