Description:  This presentation provides an overview of psychological trauma and toxic stress in relation to post-secondary students. It explores the ways in which trauma manifests in the classroom as well as trauma-informed practices and strategies for responding to potentially trauma-exposed students. After attending this session, participants will be able to: (1) explain two ways that trauma manifests in the classroom; and (2) describe three ways to support these students to improve their educational well-being.

Title: Black Folk Done Lost Their Stuff”: The Causes and Consequences of Cultural Loss

Description:  A discussion of the complexity of black thought and identity in US history where “blackness” cannot be easily outlined into discrete fields of ethical, emotional, party-political, and spiritual/sacred interests and perspectives.  Most African Americans agree on certain political issues growing out of common historical experiences and collective memory.  However, with the influence of globalized social media, there are significant losses: the loss of accepted wisdom, the loss of beliefs and principles, and the loss of the past, and the loss of what is yet to come – for as long as race matters
