Education
BS, Biology, Magna cum laude, University of Southern Indiana, 1999. MS, Aquaculture, Kentucky State University, 2005. Projects2005-Present. Co-Investigator of Horticulture, Kentucky State University, Frankfort, KY. Research: My research objectives are: 1. To establish a variety
trial of advanced selections of primocane fruiting blackberries from the
University of Arkansas for suitability in Kentucky, and 2. To support on-going
efforts related to KSU’s role as USDA-NCGR for pawpaw in germplasm acquisition,
preservation, and evaluation of germplasm and pollinizer relationships in the
collection. I assist on efforts to 1. continue a pawpaw rootstock project to
examine precocity and yield characteristics of two cultivars on five seedling
rootstocks; 2. To continue a pawpaw regional variety trial to test and evaluate
long-term the most promising varieties for regional adaptability and
suitability; and 3. To determine if within cluster and whole tree thinning of
clusters will increase pawpaw fruit size and quality. I also have
investigated the genetic relationships among various species from the
genera Asimina and Annona using ISSR primers. These primers will also be used to compare diversity of pawpaw patches
containing tetraploid and triploid plants to plants in KSU’s repository.
I also serve as a mentor to undergraduate students working in the
molecular biology lab at KSU. Extension activities: I have replied to over 100 emails, letters, and telephone calls over the last 5 years, visited grower sites, and spoken at one to two field days each year. Publications
