KSU’s Mass Communication and Journalism Department (MCJ) is a dynamic program leading to careers in a multitude of fields. Students pursuing a major or minor in MCJ will develop skills that will help them gain employment in TV, radio, magazines, print media, public relations or advertising. This active program gives students a wealth of hands-on experience. The student-run TV program, Campus Connect, and the student-edited newspaper, The Thorobred News, allow students to get involved. As one of the most innovative programs on campus, MCJ majors can customize their coursework to fit their goals. The major offers three concentrations: Public Relations, Print/Digital Journalism, and Broadcast Journalism. Therefore, the MCJ Program integrates oral, written, and visual skills to develop a well-rounded communicator ready for the demands of a rapidly changing media environment.
“It’s more than a major. It’s a movement.” – Alexandria Davis, Broadcast Concentration

“The advisors really work with you to help you figure out what you want to do.” – Kailah Jones, Print/Digital Concentration
“They really work with you to show you how it’s going to be in the field.” – Josh Chattin, Broadcast Concentration
