Kentucky State University provides a full range of academic advising and personal counseling services to students. Every effort is made to ensure that each student receives personal attention and assistance with his/her problems and concerns.
CAPS services begin at New Student Orientation. Students are assigned a major advisor and/or an Academic Persistence Officer based on the following criteria:
- New degree-seeking students who declare a major at the point admission to the University are assigned a major advisor within their chosen field of study and an Academic Persistence Officer as their secondary advisor.
- New degree –seeking students who choose not to declare a major at the point of admission but plan to pursue a degree are listed as “undeclared” and are assigned and Academic Persistence Officer. Students may stay with the APO until they declare a major, at which time they are assigned a major advisor and the APO becomes the secondary advisor.
- Non-degree seeking students are advised by personnel in the Office of Continuing and Distance Education.
KSU, were students and Academic Persistence Officer’s (APO) partner to ensure success from entrance to graduation and beyond.
