Background and Interests

Dr. Cynthia Lynne Shelton is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of Africana and International Studies in the College of Honors and Liberal Studies at Kentucky State University (2009). She earned her BA in History, with a specialization Africana Studies, at Wayne State University.  She earned her MPA, with specialization in International Administration and Development, at Kentucky State University.  She earned MA and PhD degrees in American History from the  University of Kentucky (2003).

Dr. Shelton teaches courses on the African American experience and African Diaspora Studies.  Her research focuses on issues of social justice, educational access and equity with particular emphasis on gender concerns throughout the African diaspora
