Roosevelt Orinthal Shelton is Professor of Music Education and the Distinguished Professor at Kentucky State University, Frankfort, Kentucky. He is a Fellow in the Center for Innovation in Teaching, Learning, and Assessment and a frequent consultant on issues relative to curricular and programmatic assessment, curriculum design, programmatic accreditation, and the design of instructional technology. His professional services include the capacities of President of the Kentucky Association of Arts Administrators, Board of Directors of the National Association of Schools of Music, Board of Directors of the Kentucky Arts Council, and the Kentucky Board of Examiners for the Educational Professional Standards Board Division of Educator Preparation. His previous administrative services to KSU include extended tenures as Chairperson of the Division of Fine Arts, Associate Vice President/Provost of Academic Affairs, and founding Associate Vice President for the Office of Enrollment Management. He presently serves as Reviewer for the United States Department of Education’s Field-Initiated Studies Research and Fund for the Improvement of Education Grant Programs. His current research, Empowerment Songs and the Facilitation of Collective Resistance, was presented at the 25th International Congress of Law and Mental Health, in Siena, Italy, and “The Electronic Portfolio Mirror: A Reflective Model of Assessment in Higher Education, has been selected as a model of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, and recently published by The National Association of Schools of Music.
