Dr. Richard serves as Professor of Music and teaches Applied Trumpet, French Horn, Brass Class, and conducts the University Brass Ensemble. His mentors include the late Professor William Fielder of Tennessee State and Rutgers University, Thomas Crown of the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University, and Adolph Herseth retired principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Richard, a native of Memphis, TN has performed extensively as an orchestral trumpeter and received summer academic credit in trumpet performance from Northwestern University. He also serves as faculty advisor to the Kentucky State University Gospel Ensemble. Under his direction, the gospel choir has performed with the Lexington and Louisville Orchestras and received numerous first place awards including the College Choir Explosion Louisville, KY, Battle of the Choirs, Lexington, KY, and the Revelon Creme of Nature National Gospel Competition.
Being an active performer, Dr. Richard has performed extensively on the trumpet in the areas of orchestral and church brass performance. He also conducts master classes in trumpet performance and serves as adjudicator for area solo/ensemble festivals. Dr. Richard has been a member of the Nashville University Orchestra, Nashville Symphony, Chicago Civic Orchestra, and currently performs with the Lexington Philharmonic.
