Biography

Barry Johnson began his tenure as Associate Director of Bands and Director of the Marching Thorobred Band in 1989. He studied composition with Claude Baker at the University of Louisville and Joseph Baber at the University of Kentucky. His primary area of focus is Composition, Music Technology, Music Theory, Arranging, African American Music, and Introduction to Music, which are offered as online courses. Dr. Johnson is the Major Advisor for the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree and developed the Composition/Recording Arts track and studio. His major interests are in popular music, including Gospel and Rhythm and Blues. His publications include, but are not limited to: A Change Is Gonna’ Come, published by AuthorHouse Publishers, Commentary, published by the R. H. Boyd Corporation, Camp Solid Rock, published by the Sunday School Publishing Board of the National Baptist Convention, and Finding Heavenly Treasures, published by the R. H. Boyd Corporation. He is the owner of Spyder Productions and a partner with a major Louisville recording studio. Additionally, Dr. Johnson serves as the Senior Pastor of the Southern Star Baptist Church of Louisville, Kentucky.
