General Information on the Reaffirmation Process

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) is the recognized regional accrediting body in the eleven U.S. Southern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia) and in Latin America for those institutions of higher education that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degrees. To maintain accreditation with the Commission on Colleges, an institution must comply with the standards and requirements in  The Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement  and with the policies and procedures of the Commission on Colleges.

Kentucky State University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award bachelor’s, master’s, professional, and doctoral degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call (404) 679-4500 for questions about the accreditation of Vanderbilt University.

Reaffirmation of accreditation occurs every 10 years. Kentucky State’s next reaffirmation of accreditation will take place in 2018-2019.

As part of the reaffirmation of accreditation process, Kentucky State will submit 1) a Compliance Certification demonstrating compliance with requirements, standards, and federal regulations, 2) an Institutional Summary Form prepared for Commission review, and 3) a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) that addresses a focused topic or issue related to enhancing student learning. An Off-Site Reaffirmation Committee, which consists of faculty and staff members from other SACSCOC accredited institutions, will review Kentucky State’s Compliance Certification. Additional documentation may be required after the Off-Site Committee’s review.

An On-Site Reaffirmation Committee, which also consists of faculty and staff members from other SACSCOC accredited institutions, will visit the campus TBD. The On-Site Committee evaluates and determines the acceptability of the QEP, reviews areas of non-compliance noted by the Off-Site Committee, reviews standards and requirements related to the criteria established by the U.S. Department of Education, and investigates any additional areas of interest. The On-Site Reaffirmation Committee completes the Report of the Reaffirmation Committee, which is submitted to the Commission.

In December 2019, SACSCOC will notify Kentucky State University of the reaffirmation of accreditation decision.

In December 2009, The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) reaffirmed KSU’s accreditation.

The “Fifth-Year Interim Impact Report” on the success of its QEP was completed, March  2015.

SACSCOC Response Update – Fall 2015

Due  are the compliance certification, which is Kentucky State Universiy’s response to 81 SACSCOC principles of accreditation, and an updated Institutional Summary Form. Six weeks before the on-site review, KSUmust submit another updated Institutional Summary Form along with its QEP.  It is at this time that the College also has an opportunity to submit, if necessary, a Focused Report to address any issues identified in the off-site review. A Focused Report is “essentially a mini-Compliance Certification,” but only addresses the standards marked “Non-Compliance” or “Did Not Review” in the off-site review. Shortly following the on-site review, the College has an opportunity to respond to the findings in the Report of the Reaffirmation Committee. Also at this time CofC will submit the final version of its QEP to SACSCOC. The status of the College’s reaffirmation of accreditation will not be announced until the annual SACSCOC meeting is held in December.
