BRED Week or New Student Welcome Week (August 12th-20th) is designed to help you become familiar with your new home. The week is filled with a variety of fun and engaging academic and social activities. You will also receive important information vital to your success at KSU. *ALL new students must participate in ALL activities. Any student seeking exemption from any activity must submit a written request to 1st & 2nd Year Experience at fyeksu@kysu.edu by Monday, August 8th.

MOVE-IN DAY/REGISTRATION DAY

All new students who are living on campus are required to complete registration and check into their residence halls. All commuters and non-residential new students must complete their registration during this time.

After you are settled into your room and have completed registration, you and your family are invited to a Family Dinner in the Student Center Ballroom. You will be officially greeted by KSU’s administration, faculty and staff. This event is casual.

Sunday, August 13th: Get Your Mind Right!

Prepare yourself mentally for your Thorobred journey. You will have the opportunity to attend a worship service, listen to a motivational speaker, and participate in a yoga and meditation session. End the day with a mini camping trip to our KSU Research & Demonstration Farm.  There you will continue to strengthen bonds with your classmates and staff while enjoying fishing, games, fireside conversations.

This day will focus on KSU’s rich academic culture. Morning workshops will help you learn strategies to become a successful Thorobred student and impress your professors. You will have the opportunity to interact with faculty in your major during a meet and greet.  You will have the opportunity to compete against other academic majors during a fun field day called the Academic Olympics.  Conclude the day by choosing your KSU Mentor during a fun and interactive mixer.

Thursday, August 17th: Float Like a Butterfly…

Honor the legacy of Muhammad Ali, a Kentucky native and friend to KSU. You will spend the day in Louisville touring the Ali Center followed by a relaxing lunch on the Ohio River. After your return to campus, you will enjoy the Mighty Marching Thorobred Band and learn KSU’s spirit cheers, songs and dances.  End the night with a mixer hosted by KSU’s fraternities and sororities where you will learn more about the rich legacies of Black Greek organizations.

Friday, August 18th: Becoming a KSU Man and Woman

Spend time with Mr. and Miss KSU during their signature BRED Week event: Brother to Brother and Sister to Sister. This fun and informative dialogue will give you insight into the KSU social scene. Later, key staff will provide tips on becoming a KSU Man or Woman of Excellence. The day will culminate with a Pinning Ceremony that marks the beginning of your journey to become a KSU graduate! After the ceremony, relax at a pool party with SGA!
